Custom Binde

Several years a go I was asked to make up some Pelikan 100 binde's.  Well after blowing through a crap load of material I said no I could not do it.
That is the background of today's project.
I was at the market a bit ago and found this "old black pen"
I bought it because it had a 14k nib and according to everyone in antique markets it is worth a small kings ransom.
Now being a typical male I had a flashback to my earlier failure on the 100's and I figured what the heck.
This is not for the faint of heart because it involved material being removed.

So with a full face mask and upper body armor on I let her rip and lo and behold I got a pen that I really like a lot.

I hope you all like as well

It Started With A NOS Sheaffer Nib Unit

I got a NOS Sheaffer nib unit in the mail last week so it has been on my bench all week just looking at me asking to be made into a pen.
Earlier this week I had made up a new section that was to be used in a vintage pen that had a lever as a filling system.  The twist was that the customer wanted it to take a Pelikan M400 nib.  So I made up a ebonite section with a sack on one end and the threads for the M400 on the other end.
No pictures as per the customers request but it got me thinking about the Sheaffer nib.
So this is what I made up.
This one is just a squeeze filler.  Very similar to a lever filler but your fingers do the squeezing on this one.

I have a bunch of the Here 616 caps that I love building pens around so that is what I ended up doing.

Mr Clicker

I do like making custom click pens so these are a couple that I have finished off is the past little bit.
The first one was made up out of some ebonite I found at the back of my drawer and it was just long enough to make a click pen out of.  I used a Parker Ad Pen clip on it.

Number 2 was the same material from a pen I did a bit ago.  Also an Ad Pen clip on this one.

No Plumbers Crack Here

This pen started out as a sort of a Steam Punk theme but I am not to sure how true that is on the finished pen.
It all started at Home Depo looking at the brass plumbing parts and went from there.
This pen has a brass cap, union, 2 inch threaded 1/8 pipe and some copper wire.
I had a small piece of ebonite, a Waterman clip and a clicker unit from Richard Greenwald.

First I had to wrap the copper wire around the brass pipe between the cap and the union.

Then I had to turn smooth.

And then polish.

Next I had to find a clip that would work and make up a section which I used ebonite.

From Garbage to Beauty

This all started when my son was looking at a pile of skids that I had brought home to heat my studio.
He ended up pulling out 1/4 of the wood for his stash.  While I was out there the other day thinking hey this kid has a good eye for wood grain.
So I took one of the smaller pieces and because I have always admired Pilot's wood pen though what the heck.

There were no kits used on this pen.  All the inserts were made up and epoxied into the wood.
I went with clip less on this one because it is going to be my desk pen. Because I don't like to post pens I made the body 3/8 of an inch longer to give it some weight.

For a nib I used a nice Cross F  that had in stock and it has made for a nice looking pen.

Now all I have to do is make up the cap and it is complete.

Well I got the cap done up today but the same wood looks a lot darker.
Not sure why.  Thickness of wood, temperature, humidity.
There were a few voids in the wood that I filled with a black epoxy to
match the trim and it is done.

My daughter loves it so that is the main goal.

Sooo Blue

I got this material in on Friday and I had forgotten how much I love this crushed velvet material.
This was the same type of material that I made my first kit pen out of about 18 years ago.
I used one of the new clicker units from Richard Greenwald's site.
It is so smooth with no noise at all when it is advancing the refill.
It is made to take Parker @ Itoya style refills.
The clip I had from a bunch of parts that I got a bit ago.
I love this blue.

A Pen Repair That Got Away

It all started out with really great intentions.
I was given this Modern Parker Duofold by a friend of mine but it had one small problem.

Well my thought was it would look great with a black lip at the bottom of the cap.
As things usually go when I am in the studio with the fire going things get a bit out of hand.
Here is what I ended up with.

I was able to use the clip as well as the final on the cap so if I ever come across another green or black cap I can still put it all back to original Parker Duofold.
In the mean time I have a new pen for my pocket.
