Pen Repair

This was a pen that I got back last month.
It is a ebonite click pen that takes a Parker style refill.
The customer was going through airport security and as he was taking his jacket off it "ripped the pen out of my pocket and it flew across the floor".
End result     Floor 1 Pen 0

Because the click end was black a made a black tip to match.

So at least he has his pen back to working order.

My M800

It took me a while to get up the courage to do this one because is the most expensive pen that I have "cut" into.  I had some help from Chris Burton as well.
I took it slow and steady and in the end I was very pleased at how well it turned out.
If you hold it up to the light you can still see the piston moving.

A Couple M215's

It has been to long since I have been in the shop as we have been working at THIS all summer and early fall.  But everything is all put to bed and the woodpile is all stacked up and set to go.

This first one was a M215 I had got a bit ago but was just waiting for the right material to talk to me.
This was some material I got a long time ago.  It  takes a lot of fine shallow cuts to get a good job.

This second one started out as a desk pen that I got on an E bay auction a while ago.
It was large enough that I was able to get the binde out of it.
The pen was dried out and it has an air hole on one side but I thought it was sort of cool so I left the hole.
I have never seen this material in a pen before but I really liked it a lot.

M600 Binde

I learned a few things about pen construction on doing this pen.
The green striped material is seamed and welded onto a green tube for the body.  I had always thought that the body was one solid unit.
The section is then welded into the green wrapped tube tube.

The customer had chosen this color and I think it was a fine choice.

I really love the idea of dressing up these high quality pens and making them my own.

New Section And Nib For Indian Made ED

I had a customer contact me about his ED pen that he was not happy with the flow of the pen and ink was leaking around the feed.
He supplied me with a new nib and housing and this is what I came up for him.

A Couple Of Dressed Up Birds

I got these two in the other day to have bindes made up for them.
They are both M200's
The colors were picked out by the customer and I think they turned out quite nice.

First up the black one.

Next the white one.

Hooded Nib

After seeing twissy's pen on FPN I knew I had to make one of my own.
I used a Pelikan 200 series nib that takes a converter.

I built it so that a Hero cap would fit on it.

Custom Clipless ED

This was a pen that a customer wanted built around a vintage section.
The first thing I did was to install a sac to see how it filled and wrote.

It filled but did not write so I removed the feed and nib, cleaned them all out and still no ink on the paper.  The feed was bent to I had to heat it up and put it back into place.  Then it wrote.
Threaded the section
Starting the body.
Body threaded
Finished

Second Piston Filler

This is the third pen in the lot.
The piston seals were gone on this one as well so I did the same thing.

Zenith Piston Repair

This is the second pen in a lot I got in the other day.

When I got the piston unit out this is what I had.

I was really not to sure where to go from here but I had a syringe laying on my bench.
And inside I found this.
This looks like the end of a piston filler.
I shaped the ebonite end to match this.
And then I had my new piston filler.
The body is quite see through and you can see the piston moving the length of it as well as seeing the ink.

First time I have ever tried anything like this so now with a bit of silicone grease on the rubber part it is as smooth as can be.

Now we shall see how long the repair will last.

I guess this is the same system that Bexley uses on their piston filler so I think it will be fine.

Wyvern Cap Repair

I bought a small lot of pens the other week that all needed a bit of love.
The first one I am working on was the Wyvern hard rubber.
It is the first English made pen that I have ever had.
Top two pictures from  Markiv on FPN
My first thought was like the previous owner to just make up a new cap.
After looking at it though I did not think there was a chance that you would be able to match the material so my other choice was to do a straight black cap.
Well after looking at it a bit I trimmed off the lip of the cap as I only had to take off about a 32th of an inch.  Next I used some industrial glue that we have at work for gluing together rubber and wicked it into the crack.
After re shaping the lip I think it will be fine.  You can still see the crack but it is solid and the cap also had the cap rings for strength so I left it alone.
Bonus is that it writes like a dream

Any way I have kept the pen complete and it will be in my pocket for a while now.

Pelikan M205

I found some more of this green material the other day and thought I would make up a couple pens.

First up is a Pelikan M205 that I got from Richard.  I bought it with the purpose of installing a binde on it but was not sure of which material I was going to use until I had it laying on the bench.

The next one is a click pen that I used an old Parker clip on it.
It is setup to take Parker style refills.

Custom Binde

Several years a go I was asked to make up some Pelikan 100 binde's.  Well after blowing through a crap load of material I said no I could not do it.
That is the background of today's project.
I was at the market a bit ago and found this "old black pen"
I bought it because it had a 14k nib and according to everyone in antique markets it is worth a small kings ransom.
Now being a typical male I had a flashback to my earlier failure on the 100's and I figured what the heck.
This is not for the faint of heart because it involved material being removed.

So with a full face mask and upper body armor on I let her rip and lo and behold I got a pen that I really like a lot.

I hope you all like as well
